This is Me!
📣 Week 1 Discussion: Self-Introduction
In order to build a supportive and inclusive classroom environment and foster a sense of community, I invite each student to introduce yourself by answering the following questions:
- What is your full name, where are you from, and what are you currently studying or majoring in?
- What is your working experience and educational background?
Do you have any prior experience or background knowledge related to this course? If so, please share a little about it.
- What are your academic and career goals?
How do you hope this course will help you achieve them?
- What motivated you to enroll in this course?
Is there a particular topic or skill you are excited to learn about?
- What are some of your interests and hobbies outside of academics?
Do you have any favorite books, movies, or activities?
- Share one fun fact about yourself that others might find interesting or surprising.
This discussion serves as an opportunity for students to:
- Build community
- Foster connection
- Reduce feelings of isolation
By sharing your backgrounds, interests, and goals, you begin to see one another as real people, rather than just names on a screen. This activity also helps me, as your instructor, to better understand your diverse experiences and learning needs—and adjust my teaching accordingly.
